Try To Remember The Kind of (December): Memory Tricks ⚡️
A potpourri of healthy things to enjoy as you tuck in for the end of 2023.
WELL ON HEELS
Celebrating another badass lady doing good things for our wellbeing: Jane Fonda turns 86 on 12/21, and if ever there were a patron saint of wellness, she’d be wearing leg warmers. But if your only context for her is a striped leotard or her place in the pantheon of bestie movies, then I encourage you to add her first (!) autobiography, My Life So Far, to your holiday content list. Penned when she was 66, there’s a huge chapter yet to be revealed, but it provides great context for the incredible activist efforts she continues to make today, now in the name of climate action. And the anecdotes from her remarkable life in her unmistakable voice on the audiobook will make you want to be her best friend. Get in line.
And for a double feature, T Swift also celebrated a birthday this week, and while she may not be as synonymous with wellness as some other celebs, after seeing her training regimen to prepare for her 3-hour Eras show that she has performed over 150 times, in actual heels, (I also know that pain all too well….hey-o), she gets my vote.
DOORBELLS, SLEIGH BELLS, SCHNITZEL WITH NOODLES
Oprah and Julie are not the only ones with favorite things. My picks for thoughtful gifts for the Well-deserving:
This white noise machine for peaceful sleep, also featured in last week’s travel issue. Because it’s that good.
This toxin-free home cleaning kit. If you listen my interview with the founder, you’ll never smell laundry the same way again.
This weighted blanket for sleeping as soundly as a giant swaddled grownup baby.
These face wipes, and frankly anything else by this clean ingredient all-gender skincare brand, I'm a fan.
HERE’S A TIP, MAKE THE CHANGE
Speaking of things I love, 12/21 is also National Crossword Puzzle Day, and to improve cognitive health, puzzling is a great place to start. But if you’re already Wordled and Connected and looking for new brainteasers, here’s a DIY suggestion: flex a different muscle by challenging yourself to remember more without relying on your phone as a crutch–all those one-time pins and passwords that you have to enter to log in, sign up, etc? Try looking at them once and memorizing the sequence instead of referring back to the source multiple times. Or take one look at walking directions and try to remember all the steps and turns without the map. Or real quick–try naming everything I just suggested for holiday gifting. Then go buy it for someone you love and tell them about this newsletter. That would be Fantastick.
(PS: if you cherish this song as so many do, check out Julie's version for an extra cup of joy.)
Be well, and also have fun,
xo
