Get Up, Stand Up: The Sit-To-Stand Test Might Surprise You š®
Plus some other spicy stuff you may or may not have heard.
ITāS A CINN
Iāve always been a Cinnamon Girl (one sprinkle a day into the coffee grounds BEFORE brewing- youāre welcome), but this bit of news is giving me pause: Consumer Reports shared new findings of high levels of lead in a wide variety of cinnamon products. How worried should we be? Itās not great. No amount of lead exposure is considered safe, and even at low levels, it can accumulate in your system over years. Check the list and then check your pantry. Between this and last weekās news of adulterated avocado oil, things are getting kinda spicy in the baking aisle, and not in a basic pumpkin way.
STOP, COLLABORATE AND LISTEN
Facts: we live in a time when sleep and gut health are sexy wellness topics. But for some reason, hearing health has not yet had its time to shine. Also, not sexy: hearing aids can cost up to $7000 š± so hereās a little development that should be music to literally everyoneās ears. Apple is introducing a new feature that allows AirPods to work as hearing aids for people with mild to moderate hearing loss. This means less relying on additional devices that cost a small fortune and still come with an unfortunate stigma.
Bonus: you can take a free hearing test using apps like Mimi, and sexy new brands like LOOP earplugs are making it easier to protect your precious eardrums and look cool at the same time. šš«
AURAL PLEASURE
Speaking of hearing good things, nowās a good time to catch up on any recent All Too Well pods you may have missed. HEREāS A TIP, MAKE THE CHANGE
A little while back we took a break and sat on the floor to help with our flexibility and reduce inflammation. But just as important as spending time on the floor is being able to get back up. Itās actually a significant test of fitness and a marker of longevity. Like, as in, how long you will live. The Sit-To-Stand test involves getting up without bracing yourself with your hands, knees, arms, or sides of your legs, as shown in this video. It sounds easier than it is, and itās literally impossible to fake the results. You can fool some people sometimes, but you canāt fool all the people all the timeā¦
P.S.
JET DRAG
As I am composing this weekās letter in midair, it seemed like a good time to share a new tool from the folks at Fount, designed to put an end to jet lag, no matter how long and brutal the flight. Iām trying their FlyKitt, which comes with a variety of supplements like Omegas and B-Vitamins, an app that gives you a customized program based on your flight information, and for those not already in the will-try-anything-to-sleep club (not It), a nifty set of red light glasses to help manage your circadian rhythm (adds glasses to the pileā¦someday I will have a garage sale of all my various functional glasses, probably just in time to afford hearing aids). Ping me if you wanna know it how it goes.
All Too Well is out-of-office next week! See you on October 4.
