She started training at age 70, and now she shares her story and her workouts with the entire community she has created on her platform Train With Joan. Bravo, Joan! No notes. 💪🏻
AVOCADO’S NUMBER
Not my wordplay, that one comes courtesy of Trader Joe and one of his hundreds of adorably punny products now featured in a controversy surrounding the beloved grocery brand. In disappointing-but-not-surprising news comes this 3-part exposé, detailing PR crises ranging from allegations of cultural appropriation to record numbers of food recalls and David v. Goliath lawsuits by small brands. It’s an eye-opening example of why we can’t have nice things. Sigh.
I’ll still shop there – those Everything-But-The-Gluten crackers hold a place in my heart – but I will do so with eyes wide open.
At any rate, there are better pre-made guacs out there. 🥑 Here’s a roundup of those, and pro tip: they freeze well, which may come in handy cuz avocado’s number is definitely gonna be up once we stop yelling about eggs.

A new section where we look closer at the many, many, MANY metrics of health measurement out there and focus on one at a time, cuz that’s truly all our brains can handle…So this week the number to know:
What’s your apoB?
ApoB (pronounced “A-Po-B”) is a cholesterol-carrying lipoprotein that research shows is a far better predictor of cardiovascular disease risk than the more widely known metric of LDL (aka the “bad”) cholesterol, and therefore a very important number to watch. A test indicates how many apoB particles are circulating in your bloodstream, and the more you have, the greater your risk of heart attack or stroke.
You’re about to tune out and stop reading, so I’ll just say this: the ideal number you are going for is less than 60mg/dL. It sounds like an aggressive goal, but while your reading of 90-100 is considered “normal,” remember that “normal” standards are based on the average of our population – which, as you may recall, is suffering from obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes at alarming rates.
