I Want To Break Free: Phone-Free February, But Don’t Lose Your Mind (Or Your Job) 🤳🏻
Breaking good

JUST SAY NON
☕️ 🇫🇷 Trigger warning: you get all click-y and comment-y when I share not-great news about coffee. But I’m gonna. And if French press is your method of choice, you really need to hear this. All coffee (even decaf) naturally contains diterpenes, which are compounds whose oils can increase LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, especially in those who are already genetically prone to high cholesterol. Diterpenes release during the brewing process, so any coffee brewed without a paper or fine metal filter (ex: French press, Turkish, and espresso (hey latte people 👋🏻 )) allows significantly more diterpenes into the brew. By contrast, filtered coffee has been shown to have 30x fewer diterpenes than unfiltered, so if you regularly use a drip coffee maker with paper filters, you’re in way better shape. But if you’re putting up high cholesterol numbers that otherwise don’t make sense, it may be worth looking at your #nofilter coffee consumption. Filter coffee, not photos.
MORE THAN WORDS
February Mantra: When the world is scary, too loud, too much: stop consuming. Start creating. 💖
HERE’S A TIP, MAKE THE CHANGE
Speaking of consuming- what if there was a quick way to improve your sleep, alleviate stress, and build better relationships all at the same time? There is! It’s called put down your fu*king phone.
Screen time is making us sleepless, anxious and super annoying to our friends at the dinner table. The Global Wellness Institute has just released the 10 trends for 2025 which include Analog Wellness, suggesting folks are not only seeking to log off, but device-free travel and analog hobbies are on the rise. Needless to say, Phone Free February is a thing, and in my opinion very worthy of adopting, even in a modified version.
Before you roll your eyes and close the screen (to look at another screen)- hear me out. You don’t need to lock your phone away for an entire month and miss out on valuable work or even more valuable Lively vs. Baldoni memes. But literally everyone can benefit from some guardrails.
Reframe your attachment: Unless you’re actually saving lives- it’s not that urgent, you’re not that important, and your sleep, your sense of calm and your relationships will thank you.
Schedule 15 minute breaks where you don’t look at or touch your phone. Work your way up to 30, 45, etc until you can go extended periods without feeling anxious about checking it.
Then try one day per week- it can help reset your brain chemistry and set you up to function better during the other six days.
Make your phone look as boring as possible—remember, we talked about this.
Give your companion your undivided attention for longer than you think you can. See what happens.
Sign up here to participate and pick your level—it’s ok, we’re all picking Flex. Guys, it’s the shortest month and we’re already a week in. I challenge you to break free.
