Time For A Cool Change: Cold Plunging For Your Mood and Other Fun Updates 🥶
A Double Stuf edition, but only to tell you how short and sweet this is gonna be
This International Women’s Day, a special shout-out to my mom, my ladyfriends and even my frenemies. I’m grateful every day for all your teachings and the confidence you’ve given me to do what I do. 🫶🏻 Here we go…
DON’T CALL IT A COMEBACK
I’m thrilled to share some exciting developments as I’ve been working my way back to you, babes. The All Too Well newsletter is now on Substack! What this changes for you: nothing. What this changes for me: I get to publish the same newsletter you’ve come to rely on for your bite-sized wellness nuggets, with the added bonus of being part of a huge community of creators. More eyeballs, more fun!
GREAT TASTE, MORE FILLING
Going forward there will be two versions of the newsletter: free and paid. Because you’re already an All Too Well subscriber, you are automatically subscribed to the free version. But maybe let’s be friends with benefits?
Please consider becoming a paid subscriber for $6 a month, $60 a year, or the Super Trooper VIP level for those seeking newsletter nirvana. Paid subscriptions will allow me to continue providing great info in a fun and digestible way without junking up your experience with annoying ads. And obvi I would love for you to upgrade (ahem) so as not to miss a single pearl of the wellness wisdom I offer.
"But, Erica...why buy the coconut if we get the milk for free?” Glad you asked. For less than the cost of a green juice, you'll get exclusive content and benefits that won’t be available at the free level. Think product giveaways, special discounts, Q&As with experts, and 1:1 coaching at the highest level. The membership page has more details, let’s just say this VIP room is pretty classy.
As a preview of what’s to come, the next two issues will be the full paid version for FREE. After that, you’ll need to upgrade to get the real juicy stuff-it’s sort of like switching from conventional to organic: it’s just better for you. If you’re ready to upgrade now, there’s an extra lil’ something for my early adopters! Learn more:
And If you prefer to remain a free subscriber, thanks for staying with me. You’ll still get your weekly issue, and I'll still urge you to share with your friends.
This and all future emails will be from ericahuss@substack.com. Please keep an eye out so you don’t miss an issue. And now back to our show.
HERE’S A TIP, MAKE THE CHANGE
You may be familiar with the concept of a cold plunge, but you may not know what it does, why to do it, or how you can do it effectively if you don’t have Oprah money or Bradley Cooper’s private stream. Cold plunging is a very simple practice that some folks have found a way to monetize heavily (srsly, just stop), but the good news is that in real life on planet Earth, it doesn’t need to cost you a dime. Research has shown the numerous benefits of deliberate cold exposure, including:
help you recover after exercise
tame inflammation and alleviate soreness
restore balance to the nervous system
drop the internal body temperature to improve mood and sleep
boost metabolism to burn more calories at rest
Many gyms and recovery clinics are adding this to their offerings but you can get major benefits at home for free. Submerging in a bathtub of water at 50-67 degrees for 30 seconds to 2 minutes is ideal. In the absence of a tub, try 30 seconds of cold water at the end of your shower to start your day with a spring in your step. Try it for a week and let me know what you think. What’s cooler than being cool?
Extra extra: For luxe cold plunging in NYC I love Recoverie Wellness in Brooklyn, (psst: in the future, this type of recc and a discount code will only be available to paid subscribers!)
BREAK ON THROUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE (OF THE PAYWALL)
Something I’ll be introducing for paid subscribers is Ask the Experts. You send me your pressing questions and dilemmas, and I’ll provide the expert answer for you. Anything from sleep tips to supplements, my favorite treatments, practices, services, etc. Have a go, send me your questions!
EVERYBODY HURTS SOMETIMES
Paid members will also see recommendations for my product of the week, which will cover categories like fitness and food, travel, home, menopause, ladybits and dude stuff, all in the name of helping you navigate your highway to well. This week I’m focusing on recovery. I just picked up my beloved tennis racquet for the first time in months — and could barely walk the next day. I’m happy to report that we’ve come a long way since stinky Ben-Gay and topicals with hard-to-pronounce ingredients. I like this Yuni Chillax roll-on arnica for its fast-acting, not sticky, not stinky, organic formula magic. A little birdie who plays more tennis than maybe even Federer told me about it, and my hamstrings and I will be forever in his debt.
POTPOURRI
+Many of you have responded gleefully to the musical breadcrumbs I sprinkle into these letters, which brings me joy. So as I nurture your wellness brain, I’ll keep feeding you from the (organic) garden of music snacks. Set sail on the yacht with today’s inspo.
+Cool for a time change–clocks spring forward this weekend, try to prepare yourself by winding down a bit earlier tonight. And as always, get that early morning light in your eyeballs.
More sneak previews ahead in next week’s issue. For now, be well and also have fun!
